M1XEP Version 2.x.x and Enhanced Email Support


M1XEP Version 2.x.x is a special field installable version of firmware designed to support an extended list of mail service providers.  The information below provides answers for common questions about enhanced email support and the special M1XEP firmware version 2.x.x.

Q: What enhancements to the email feature does M1XEP firmware version 2.x.x provide?

A: M1XEP firmware version 2.0.22 or later allows the M1XEP to send email through more mail service providers including some with SSL/TLS requirements.


Q: What mail services are now supported?

A: M1XEP firmware version 2.0.22 has been successfully tested with Gmail, GMX, InBox, SMTP2Go and Yahoo.  While these services were tested and confirmed to work, we cannot endorse them, nor can we guarantee the reliability of their services.  Some ISP (Internet Service Providers) email services that were previously unsupported may also work with this new version, but have not been confirmed.  The setup information for each of the tested services is outlined below.  


Gmail
Server URL: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465 (alternates: 587)
From Address: the address you chose when signing up (xxxx@gmail.com)
Username: the address you chose when signing up (xxxx@gmail.com)
Password: the password you chose when signing up

GMX
Server URL: mail.gmx.com
Port: 25 (alternates: 465, 587)
From Address: the address you chose when signing up (xxxx@gmx.com)

InBox

Server URL:  my.inbox.com

Port:  587 (alternates: 465)

SMTP2Go

Q: Are there any specific email services that are not supported?

A:  While we cannot provide an inclusive list of all unsupported services, Hotmail and Outlook.com were tested and are not supported with M1XEP firmware version 2.x.x.  

 

Q: What do I give up or lose if I update my M1XEP to Firmware Version 2.x.x?

A: The M1XEP's Java Web Server feature has been removed from M1XEP firmware version 2.x.x.  You will no longer be able to connect directly to the M1 via a web browser. The functionality normally associated with the java web server feature is now available through a free Windows application called M1ToGo  

Updating to Firmware Version 2 is a one-way process and cannot be reversed.
